Not everybody has a good-looking home, and chances are it’s not the home, it’s you’re landscaping that is having a serious effect on your curb appeal. I’m going to show you 3 homes that went from boring to awesome using 3 simple and easy landscaping techniques, budget-friendly, and a few secrets that most pros don’t share.
Design #1: Balance
First up, we have a house in Chapel Hill, NC that’s got all the potential in the world but just needs some balance.
- PROBLEM: The home’s landscaping was outdated and very sparse.
- SOLUTION: Creating some beautiful hedges down the driveway and walkway as well as adding seasonal color to make the yard pop.
- Landscape Design: Now, this home has gone from seeking some guidance to a beautiful example of what curb appeal looks like with a well balanced landscape design.
Design #2: Layering
Next, we head to University City, MO for another front yard that has so much potential.
- PROBLEM: The home’s front landscaping is not complimenting the architecture of the home. It’s clean, simple, and works.
- SOLUTION: Planting using a layering effect. Having lime light hydrangeas along the back, green velvet boxwoods in front, and then finally some dusty miller perennials to add some extra color.
- Landscape Design: Now, this home screams curb appeal and has interest that will last all seasons.
Design #3: Adding Height
Finally, we are headed to Eauclaire, WI where this house felt completely exposed due to its size and all the bricks that you see.
- PROBLEM: The home’s architecture needs to be softened with landscaping. Too much brick showing!
- SOLUTION: In order to break up that large sections of brick, we will add in height with various trees and bushes. This is accomplished with arborvitae bushes, a red maple tree, and balanced with various colorful plants.
- Landscape Design: Now, this home has lots of curb appeal, seasonal interest, and is not so exposed.
